Your Thoughts on College?

My parents obvious are wanting me to go to college, as apparently more and more young people entering the world these days are judged on the fact on how well they did in school, and more important: if they went to college. With that said and done, I am to start college this upcoming spring.

On the other hand, some friends of mine are telling me that college is a complete waste of time, and that it really doesn't matter whether or not you have a degree in anything to make a decent living for yourself out there.

What do you think?

Collage IS important because you can get a great job with a degree.. would you want to end up working at Arby's? I don't think so.

If you have the money and get accepted, great, go.

Yes, also, you can get a job with good payments, good health plans, and such stuff.

I cannot WAIT(!) to go. I plan on studying Russian Literature... my D R E A M is to teach Lit at a university... or you know..become a pop singer. o.o

& another thing. I just thought of this. Sometimes for some people, like my brother-in-law; he got a degree in some kind of engineering & he hasn't even found a job... it was a very bad waste of time for him. A waste of time? It depends on these things I suppose:
1. what kinda person you are
2. what you are majoring in
3.where you are located (does it have good job opportunties for your field?)
4. whether you enjoy hardwork.. I suppose.

Anyway. Just a couple thoughts.

I think that College is great. In fact I am currently a college student myself. And yes you can make more money and get a better job. Your friends won't be saying those things when you make more money then they do. But like Chimory said-College isn't for everyone. College work is more difficult and takes more time to do then High School. And some people can't keep up with the workload. And in most classes you will get alot of homework and they expect you to get it all done. And they won't execpt excuses. So when the homework is due its DUE. Some instructors won't even accept late work. It depends on the instructor. Its a big step to take. Thankfully there are some Colllege Prep classes that you can take if you feel that your not ready to take college level work or if you wondering if college is right for you. At my community college they have this program where you take 2 12 credit hours terms worth of classes. They are College Prep classes that prepares you for college. So if you feel that you want to take some prep classes then talk to your advisor and he and she can help you.And its your choice if you want to take them or not. But people who take College Prep classes are more likely to graduate. At my college its 40% higher. And College is expensive as you may know so you should start looking for finacial aid options now so you would know what to do in the Spring and have plenty of time to set it up.

But College can be a fun time in your life and I certainly enjoyed my first year. Even though it was just College Prep classes. I can't wait to go back. In fact I just got my finacial aid done today.
